Our Leadership

Nova Arc is led by chief executive officer Heather Saunders, an experienced, engaging, and high-profile national leader in the technical editing, writing, and proofreading fields. Her experience in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and medical sectors and her people-based leadership style led to her election as President of ACES: The Society for Editing for the April 2024–April 2026 term. As the nation’s leading organization of editing professionals, educators, and students, ACES is dedicated to improving the quality of the written word and the working lives of editors.

With a deep love of learning and a passion for giving back to the editing community, she has also previously been Vice President/President-Elect, Secretary, Communications committee chair, and a committee member of ACES and has presented at multiple conferences and taught an editing bootcamp. Heather is also producer of That Word Chat, a Zoom-based chat show with editors, linguists, and other word lovers about all things lexical.

Previously, she also served as the Boston chapter coordinator (2013–2016) and an instructor and presenter (2018–2019) for the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), giving her valuable insight into the freelancing community and industry. The EFA advances excellence among a dynamic community of freelance editorial professionals by providing opportunities for business development, learning, and networking.

Heather enjoys connecting with peers and working to uplift new ideas and others through association membership. She maintains membership in the following communities and organizations because they align with her goals and passions, and she regularly volunteers as time allows.
